RESIDENTS in SNS in Mamelodi, east of Tshwane, are not happy with crime in the area.
Some said they hear people screaming, especially at night, while getting robbed.
Others said pupils are also being targeted when they pass through the park. They said they also hear gunshots.
According to reports, a pupil was killed while walking through the park last month.
A decomposed body of a woman was also discovered in the park on Friday, 17 February.
Concerned residents are now calling for more police visibility and patrolling in and around the park. Thulani Mahlangu (46) told Daily Sun crime in the area is bad and something needs to be done urgently.
He said residents and pupils who walk through the park while going to school fear for their lives.
“What will happen if our children are robbed at gunpoint
Thulani has appealed for a fence to be erected around the park.
Rachel Mahlangu (61) said women and children are scared to walk in the park.
“Crime has been happening there for the past three months and it’s sad that we sometimes get dead bodies.”
She said thugs sometimes kill people elsewhere and dump their bodies at the park.
“We need police visibility in the area. We are scared to walk freely in our own park,” she said.
Winston Kekana (23) said: “Innocent lives are lost every day and thugs have declared their own curfew in the area.
Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the cops in Mamelodi, Tshwane, are investigating a case of murder.

“The decomposed body was covered in a pink and white gown, the face with black stockings and the neck with a pink cloth. Both hands and feet were tied up,” she said. Police have asked anyone with information that can help with the investigation or know the family of the dead woman to contact their nearest cop shop.
