THULANI Mokoena (32), Majazana’s very own dancer had his last dance on Saturday, 27 August.
A night of having fun and drinks with his friend ended when he was stabbed and killed, following an altercation in his kasi.
According to the family, Thulani’s friend allegedly swore at drunk people who were blocking the road in Kanana, Majazana, south of Joburg, where the pair were drinking.
The group followed them, grabbed Thulani and stabbed him while his friend drove off, leaving him behind.
Thulani’s brother Sibusiso Mokoena (27) said his brother died at the gate of a community leader’s home, where he ran after being stabbed.
He said his brother was a dancer and he taught children in Majazana to dance and helped them with homework.
“He spoke a lot, but he was never a physical person,” said Sibusiso.
He believes that the community can help the police fight crime in the area.
“Without help from the community, crime will not be solved,” he said.
Thulani’s friend, Petros Vilakazi, admitted that he fled when they were attacked. “When I went back, there was no one.
“I thought he had escaped and went to his home. It doesn’t sit well with me that I am blamed for his death. I’ve lost a best friend,” said Petros.
Police Spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Sello confirmed that a case of murder had been opened and a suspect bust. “The suspect is expected to appear before Vereeniging Magistrates’ Court on 29 August 2022,” she said.
