THE July 2021 unrest "Woolies looter", better known as Mbuso Moloi (33), has been sentenced to 18 months of correctional supervision under house arrest.
This sentence was handed down on Friday, 7 July when he appeared before the Durban Magistrates Court. He pleaded guilty to theft and contravention of the traffic regulations in March 2023.
But when he appeared on Friday after what is believed to have been a lengthy case, Magistrate Melanie de Jager sentenced Moloi to three years behind bars but suspended for five years.

This is, however, on condition that he doesn't commit a similar crime during that period.
De Jager said Mbuso was subjected to house arrest and community service for a period of 16 hours a month and also ordered a fine of R1000 for contravening the Road Management Act.
Mbuso made headlines two years ago when he was caught looting during the July 2021 unrest which ravaged KZN and parts of Gauteng.
He was caught on camera leaving a Woolworths outlet in Glenwood, Durban central, with a basket stacked with goods and loading them into a Mercedes-Benz C300 Coupe.
At the time, the car number plate did not correspond with the licence disc.
