THE Democratic Alliance (DA) believes that women are the most important people in Mzansi.
The party believes that the country is not doing enough to honour, empower and place them in strategic positions in government.
DA leader John Steenhuisen said if the country is serious about building a responsible society, it should intensively invest in empowering women in business, and teaching the girl child leadership skills from school level.
Steenhuisen told Daily Sun that the DA is the only political party that is championing women's empowerment.
"Every day should be Women's Day. I'm very proud to be a leader of a mainstream political party that is led by women. Our former leader Helen Zille led the party for 10 years. I am the only man in my entire parliamentary leadership.

"Our chief whip, deputy chief whip, caucus leader, and the leader in National Council of Provinces (NCOP) are all women. We believe fundamentally in empowering women to be able to lead. They have a huge contribution to make," he said.
Steenhuisen said most politicians speak louder about gender-based violence without taking practical examples.
He also said the DA has noticed with disgust that all Free State municipalities are in a deteriorating state, including the Mangaung Metro and Maluti-a-Phofung.
Steenhuisen said the municipal system itself is corrupt hence opposition parties couldn't penetrate to stop money laundering and corruption.
"It is important to root out corruption while you're not in power. A typical example is Cape Town, Midvaal and Modimolle in Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal. We have the potential to turn small towns around," he said.
