THE Helen Joseph Hospital in Joburg has apologised to patients, staff and the public for the inconvenience caused by the low water pressure.
On Saturday, 3 June, Daily Sun published an article, "Hospital rocked by water shortages!" about the water shortage that hit the hospital. Following that, on Sunday afternoon, 4 June, the hospital notified the public that the facility was experiencing low water pressure, affecting parts of the hospital, including surrounding areas.
“Areas affected include the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and various wards. When there is low water pressure, this affects water delivery to upper floors of the hospital building, which impacts services,” said the hospital CEO, Dr Rodney Pheto.

The hospital management said they're closely monitoring the situation and have put in place measures to divert Priority 1 (emergency and critical) and Priority 2 (urgent but stable) patients to other facilities when necessary.
Pheto said Joburg Water had sent water tankers onsite to continue pumping water into the hospital.
“This intervention ensures the continuation of some of the hospital services. However, it is not sufficient to maintain the much-needed water pressure in the system. The low water pressure has been affecting the hospital this weekend,” he said.
He said that technicians from the Joburg Water and the Gauteng Department of Infrastructure Development are investigating the cause of the low water pressure to restore the water supply to the hospital back to normal.
