WHILE water woes in Joburg are far from over, Joburg Water has urged residents of Doornkop, Tshepisong, Slovoville and Motholesville to reduce water consumption.
The water entity identified the Doornkop North meter as one of its top 10 highest consuming meters in the City of Joburg.
“The Doornkop North reservoir provides bulk water supply to parts of Soweto and within the supply zone of this reservoir, Doornkop, Tshepisong, Slovoville, and Motholesville have been flagged as the areas of concern, where water consumption is at an all-time high,” said the entity.

According to the entity, the high consumption is mainly due to illegal connections and on-property leaks, especially within informal settlements.
“The ongoing high consumption has a negative impact on other suburbs in these supply zones, including Dobsonville and Protea Glen. Although the entity has ongoing intervention strategies to reduce the burden on the system, including the regular overnight throttling of the reservoir to build capacity, we however, appeal to residents to please work with us to use water wisely. This is essential in alleviating the pressure on the system and ensuring a sustainable water supply for all residents in the long term,” said Joburg Water.
