Johannesburg Road Agency CEO Tshepo Mahanuke has been fired.

HE claimed he had a master's degree, an "undergraduate engineering degree" and an honorary doctorate.

But when questioned, Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) CEO Tshepo Mahanuke could not provide proof of this high-flying academic career.

So, on Wednesday, June 14, the agency fired Mahanuke. This after he was placed on suspension in January 2023  after an Independent Re-Authentication Report found that he had a case to answer regarding his qualifications.

An investigation to his qualifications was started by the agency.

JRA board chairman Charles Cilliers, said that the decision to terminate Mahanuke's contract followed his failure to produce counter-evidence in response to the allegations of a fraudulent CV.

“Given the serious nature and far-reaching ramifications of the matter at hand, coupled with the findings of a rigorous investigation and the failure of Mr Mahanuke to respond to the charges levelled against him, the JRA board resolved to immediately terminate Mr Mahanuke’s employment with the Johannesburg Roads Agency,” said Cilliers.

“The decision to terminate Mr Mahanuke’s employment at the JRA complies with the Labour Relations Act, Schedule 8 - Code of Good Practice on Dismissal, the relevant case law and also considers the severe legal costs already incurred thus far.”

Cilliers said Mahanuke was granted seven days to appeal the decision.

The Daily Maverick reported that Mahanuke's CV claimed he had a master's degree from ACI College at the Harvard Business School. It was also reported that Mahanuke claimed to have a degree in "competitive intelligence" from ACI College at the Harvard Business School. But the degree is not offered at Harvard and ACI is a separate college.

It reported that another qualification, an honorary doctorate from Trinity International University of Ambassadors in the US, could be bought for a small "support honorarium".

His CV also reportedly claimed he had an "undergraduate engineering degree from the Vaal University of Technology", but that was not a degree course at the institution.
