WATCH: J&J VACCINE TO BE ROLLED OUT TODAY

accreditation

THERE’S a glimmer of hope as the first batch of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected to be rolled out today, 17 February.

Front line workers such as nurses, doctors and police are expected to receive the jabs of the vaccine against the deadly Covid-19 this afternoon.

“Government remains committed to saving lives and protecting livelihoods."

The vaccine landed at the OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday night, 16 February.

However, this batch of vaccine with 80 000 doses didn’t receive a spectacular welcoming enjoyed by the controversial AstraZeneca which landed at the beginning of February.

In a statement, the health department said: “The vaccine has been approved by the South African Health Products Authority. The consignment will be moved to a secure facility in Gauteng before being distributed overnight to the various vaccine centres in all provinces.

“Due to logistical purposes around the arrival of the vaccines this evening, no media access can be granted.”

The department urged citizens to continue to adhere to wash or sanitise their hands, maintain social distancing, wear masks and avoid crowded places.

“Government remains committed to saving lives and protecting livelihoods. All citizens are reminded that adhering to health protocols together with the vaccine remains our best defence against the virus.”
