There was a commotion, which was followed by gunshots.

KZN cops spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the police are investigating three counts of murder and attempted murder after a security officer of a private security company went to his ex girlfriend’s residence at Hlalakahle shacks in the early hours of Saturday, 9 September.

"An argument reportedly erupted and the suspect shot the woman, her current boyfriend and child," said Netshiunda.

He said the ex-girlfriend, her boyfriend and one child were certified dead at the scene while one child was rushed to hospital for treatment.

"The suspect was later found on Bishopstowe Road after he allegedly shot himself in an apparent attempted suicide. He was also taken to hospital where he is receiving medical attention under police guard. A firearm was found next to him," said Netshiunda.
