IT has been one year since a mine dam in the Free State burst.

For Motshidisi Mosoue, 11 of September 2022 will forever be a reminder of the day that brought sorrow, pain, emptiness and the loss of her loving husband.

She survived the incident which left her heartbroken.

“This day is very painful to me. What happened still haunts me. I’m trying by all means to forget it," she said.

Motshidisi said on that fateful day she and her husband were in the house when the mudslide destroyed everything.

“We held each other while the furniture and walls fell on us. The next thing, we lost each other as the house was being swept away. I don’t know what happened to him. He was later found dead. I woke up in a hospital bed in pain,” she said.

She said the incident has left a void in her heart that no one will ever fill.

“I always find myself crying when I think about it. The worst part is I’m now forced to use crutches because I can’t walk properly. I have scars all over my body which when I look at they remind me of what happened,” said Motshidisi.
