AFTER two weeks of searching, the police and rescue teams recovered the body of a man who was swept away by a mudslide during the Jagersfontein disaster on Sunday, 11 September.
The body was found 30km down the stream into the river by divers, floating and entangled in debris trees and mud.
Sergeant Peter Kareli said the body was recovered on Friday, 30 September, following the search and rescue unit collaborating with police divers.

“This is the body of one victim who was reported missing after the Jagersfontein mine dam burst,” said Kareli.
Acting provincial commissioner Major General Solly Lesia said: “Though working under unfamiliar conditions with mud and different hazardous debris, the team continued to search the area for the reported missing victims.”
He applauded the efforts put into finding missing victims, with the hope of reuniting them with their families, and persistent attitude of the teams deployed to ensure that families got closure.
“Members continue with the search as there is still one more reported missing person,” added Lesia.
