UMKHONTO Wesizwe (MK) party is calling for the resignation of Janet Love as IEC Commissioner.
This follows Love's alleged comment in January 2024 that former president Jacob Zuma was not eligible for a seat in Parliament.
The call comes after the IEC confirmed that it was going to appeal the Electoral Court's ruling that cleared Zuma's way to Parliament in the Constitutional Court recently.
MK said after much consideration, they condemn Love’s conduct and call for her resignation, with immediate effect, for her “blatant” acts of biasness.
MK spokesman Nhlamulo Ndhlela said: “We were prepared to give Love, who has been a loyal serving member of the ANC and President Cyril Ramaphosa's confidante, benefit of the doubt but in the light of the above, we have now come to the conclusion that Janet Love is highly vested in the outcomes of the upcoming elections and can't be trusted to oversee nor be involved in these elections.”

Referring to Love's January statement, Ndhlela said before an objection was lodged regarding Zuma’s participation in the parliamentary elections, Love made an unprecedented move by publicly declaring nationally that he would not be eligible.
"The pronouncement wasn't only premature and unwarranted but also a direct violation of established IEC rules which stipulate that such declarations can only be made following an official objection.
Ndhlela said the party is committed to the integrity of South Africa’s electoral process and system by ensuring impartiality among electoral commissioners.
The MK party said should Love fail to reign in the next seven days, they reserve the right to pursue all available avenues to address the issue, including approaching the court.
