FORMER president Jacob Zuma's bid to get Advocate Billy Downer removed as a prosecutor in the infamous “arms deal trial” has been slightly delayed.
This comes after the Judge President of the KZN High Court, Judge Thoba Poyo-Dlwati, unexpectedly informed the parties that the matter would not sit on Tuesday morning, 15 August as per the court schedule.
Instead, he requested a meeting between the parties involved.
Earlier this year, Zuma brought an application to have Downer removed as prosecutor in the case on the grounds that he had illegally leaked his confidential medical information to the media.

The application was scheduled to be heard from 15 to 16 August in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
The notice from the High Court said: “The matter J G Zuma v the State, which was set down to be heard from 15 to 16 August 2023 at the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, Pietermaritzburg, will no longer sit as scheduled."
“Instead, the Judge President of the KwaZulu-Natal Division of the High Court, Judge Thoba Poyo-Dlwati, will conduct a virtual case management meeting with all parties involved on the dates previously scheduled for the sitting,” said NPA national spokeswoman Lusanda Ntuli.
Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesman Mzwanele Manyi said they had just learnt that the Judge unexpectedly informed the parties that the application would not proceed as scheduled.
