FORMER Unisa law student, Itani Rasalanavho embarked on a long walk for Gaza from Joburg to Durban to raise funds for children in Palestine.

The 39-year-old who is originally from Venda, Limpopo, but living in Soweto, started his walk on Thursday, 25 January walking from Soweto to Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.

His journey is to raise funds for critical children in Gaza the majority of which lost limbs.

Itani said children in Gaza are in urgent need of medical support, especially prosthetics.

He received a hero's welcome in Harrismith, Free State on Sunday, 28 January on his way to Durban. He joined an intensive march including People Against Oppression(PAO) ANC, ATM, EFF, MAP16, Al Jama-Ah from N3 interchange to Harrismith town hall.

"Former President Nelson Mandela in his inauguration in 1994 said Mzansi is not free until Palestinians are free. The children in Palestine need medical support. The majority of children lost their legs and hands. Due to the threatening noise courses by bombs, the surviving victims will be totally disabled with no hands and legs, crippled and unable to hear. We are asking for funds in solidarity to help those helpless children," he said.

Itani visited Palestine for six months in 2014 and noted inhumane experiences.

"The church where Jesus was born in Bethlehem has bullet holes. I wish to thank the South African government for taking Israel head- on to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and come with a positive outcome," he said,

The executive member of People Against Oppression in South Africa, Sheik Rajeek told Daily Sun they intend to support Itani on his journey to Durban.
