IFP president Velenkosini Hlabisa has revealed that the party will contest the 2024 general elections as an independent IFP.
They will strictly campaign alone as the IFP and the policies that will be designed will be IFP policies.
Hlabisa said they continue to be a good member in standing of the Multi-Party Charter, but their manifesto will be of the IFP’s commitment. And a vote cast for the IFP will go to the IFP.

Hlabisa was speaking during the opening of the IFP's two-day National Policy Conference at Imbizo Hall in Empangeni, northern KZN on Tuesday, 12 December.
“The charter is a commitment to work with like-minded organisations after the elections to create a government to replace the ANC-led government if they fail to secure a majority. It's our commitment to South Africa to put the country first,” he said.
On the matter of the possible coalition with the ANC, he said people are fed up with the ruling party or driving this country to the ground and it will be an insult to bring them back through back doors.
“People of South Africa want a new government, not the government that has turned this country into a crime scene. So, it would not be a wise decision to bring them back through back doors,” said Hlabisa.
IFP secretary-general Siphosethu Ngcobo said the policy conference requires them to extend the good work and service they are already delivering in all the IFP-led municipalities by ensuring they place the people of Mzansi at the centre of what they wish to achieve at the end of the conference.
“Delegates, these draft policies have undergone extensive consultation from the ground up. Our structures across the country, together with sectoral industry leaders, have had an opportunity to voice their concerns,” said Ngcobo.
IFP national spokesman Mkhuleko Hlengwa said the party will report back on the policies that will be discussed over the two days. The conference started on Tuesday and will conclude on Wednesday, 13 December.
