POLICE are searching for a group of thugs after an ATM bombing at a restaurant in Sebokeng zone 13, Vaal in the early hours of Friday, 9 December.
George Mollo, the owner of the restaurant, told Daily Sun thugs bombed his entire shop for a small amount of money, as the ATM did not have enough cash at that time.
He said people living near the shop said the group, after the bombing, shot many times to stop anyone who might think of coming out to disturb them.
George said neighbours told him one of the cars that the thugs were using was a vehicle he had noticed parked for several days next to his shop.
He said kasi businesses were under attack as in recent weeks, many businesses have been robbed and ATMs bombed, and now it’s time community members work with businesses to fight crime.
Business robbery activities in the Vaal are increasing and we are going to be left with nothing in our township, said Mollo.
“As businesses, we are trying hard to build beautiful things in the township but at the same time we are losing a lot because of these crimes,” he said.
“We are vigilant and always safeguard our businesses, but we don’t know when these thugs do their work.”
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said cops were appealing to anyone who might have information that could help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of suspects to please call the nearest police station.
