accreditation

FREE STATE cops in Welkom have launched a manhunt for three unknown suspects who were involved in the attempted robbery and murder of a 47-year-old woman on Tuesday, 12 July.

According to Sergeant Sinah Mpakane, it is alleged that the victim was driving home from work at around 7pm when she was ambushed by three men, waiting for her at the gate.

“One suspect allegedly blocked the gate while the other two followed her inside the courtyard, where they cornered her while she was inside her car. They smashed the window and instructed her to hand over money. She allegedly reversed away from the suspects, and they fired shots at her,” Mpakane said, adding that they shot the woman dead and then fled on foot.

“Emergency service personnel were summoned to the scene, where she was certified dead. A case of attempted robbery and murder was registered,” said Mpakane.

She has urged anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Tsie Matlokotsi on 078 758 5658 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
