KASI people were horrified when a vehicle dumped more than 80 plastic bags of hospital gowns in their area on Sunday afternoon, 14 August.
A resident from Nyanga, Cape Town, said a man got out of an Iveco and started offloading the bags while two men sat inside the vehicle.
She said some of the clothes in the bags had blood stains.
“When I passed by, I asked why he was dropping clothes in our rubbish container but he didn’t respond,” said the woman.
“It looked like the people in the car were armed and I suspect he was hijacked, and they wanted to offload the things before using the vehicle.”
Community Policing Forum secretary Dumisani Qwabe said he was shocked by the incident.
“A police bakkie would be too small to carry those bags. The clothes looked dirty as if they were on their way to the laundry, but I’m not sure what was happening,” he said.
Themba Mawawa (45) said the kasi would not be seen in a bad light because of criminals dumping things in the area.
“Our kasi is not a dumping area and people must not commit crime in other places and then dump their evidence here!” he said.
Dumisani said the people who dumped the hospital clothes were heartless. “These are resources that are needed when someone arrives in the hospital in a critical condition.
“I don’t understand why someone would do this,” he said.
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said: “The clothing was handed to the local police station, but no case was opened.”
