THE Segaetsho Cultural Village has great plans to keep tourists entertained, with colourful and vibrant tapestry of Tswana culture, this Heritage Month.
Tourists to Sun City Resort have the chance to explore the diverse history and heritage of the North West in the village.
Segaetsho, which means “our heritage” in Tswana, offers tourists an authentic African experience exploring Tswana culture through music, art, traditional dance, fashion, photography and food.
Thirteen people from Rustenburg make up the village.
Segaetsho’s managing director Thuto Legwale said they started in 2017, with the aim of making the Tswana culture and history known.
“We offer different experiences and activities such as music performances that explore African cultural dance through pantsula, gumboot dance, cultural contemporary fusion dance as well as an African musical instruments interaction.
“We also have arts and craft viewings, where you can learn more about the Batswana tribe and history of its diverse clans,” said Legwale.
He said working with locals and teaching them to make arts and crafts had been one of their highlights.
“Seeing how people from local communities become proud of the crafts they have created with their own hands is very fulfilling,” he said.
He said selling their art and generating income from it themselves was something they were also proud of.
Segaetsho also offers kids dance lessons and teaches them about their heritage.
“It’s is important, especially for young people to know their heritage and where they come from.
“The goal is to make people, both local and international, aware of Batswana culture.”
