A SOWETO man who was born with HIV uses art to educate people about HIV/Aids prevention and treatment.
Sfiso Mvundle (26) told Daily Sun that he was born with HIV and lost his mum at a very young age. After losing his mum, his father and gogo also died, leaving him as an orphan.
With no treatment available in the 1990s, he said he got meningitis in grade 10, which affected part of his brain and left him unable to read or write.
Sfiso said he expresses himself through art.
"Since I can’t read or write, the only way I know to express myself is through drawing," he said.
Sfiso is a peer educator at Tholulwazi Phakathi, a non-profit organisation that provides psychosocial support to adolescents and young adults living with HIV in Diepkloof, Soweto.
He expresses himself through art. He educates his peers about the importance of adhering to the ARVs U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable)

Sfiso said he uses art to escape from many things.
"Some young people use drugs as an escape boat or solace, whereas I find solace in the display of art," he said.
Nonhlanhla said she's grateful to have Sfiso in their family.
