TWO tsotsis were arrested on Friday, 7 April in Val, Mpumalanga for hijacking.

Cops also recovered a firearm and VW Polo when they arrested the thugs aged 32 and 34.

Police spokesman, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the police received a tip-off about a suspicious vehicle.

"The police followed the information, which led them to a certain house in Haartebeeskuil in Val. Upon arrival they found two individuals as well as a VW Polo with Gauteng registration number plates,” he said.

The car was reportedly hijacked in Tsakane in Gauteng last week.

“Upon further search, the police also found the two men in possession of a pistol. The pair was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property (in reference to the vehicle) as well as for possession of a firearm.

"The firearm will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether it was used in the commission of crime elsewhere. At this stage, the police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects,” said Mohlala.

The suspects will appear in the Standerton Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 11 April.

Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, commended the sterling work done by both members of the public who provided information as well as the swift response by the SAPS, which led to the recovery of the hijacked car and discovery of the firearm.
