A MANHUNT has been launched after a security guard (46) responding to an electric cable theft was killed by tsotsis.

The incident happened at a business site in a sewage plantation in Leslie, Mpumalanga on Friday, 25 November at about 1.25am

Colonel Donald Mdhluli confirmed the incident.

He said a vehicle was sent to investigate and it was driven by the said guard. Police were also alerted about the incident in progress.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the police were met with the gruesome scene of the body of a guard. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene. On closer observation, cops discovered some cartridges on the scene,” he said.

“The slain guard is reported to have sustained serious injuries on his throat. He was unfortunately certified dead by the paramedics. Preliminary investigation suggests that the guard’s firearm could have been stolen during the incident. Police also discovered that an electric cable was also stolen.

“A murder case is being investigated with an additional charge of theft of electric cable.”

He said the family of the security guard is yet to identify him.
