accreditation

TEN heavily armed men bombed an ATM in the early hours of Monday morning, 25 July.

It’s reported that a security guard responded to a panic alarm at a filling station in Meloding in Virginian in the Free State.

And upon arrival at the scene, the guard noticed a group of about 10 heavily armed men and an ATM that was bombed and totally damaged.

According to police spokesman Captain Stephen Thakeng, the suspects fired several shots towards the responding security officer who retaliated and then the suspects fled the scene on foot.

“Further police investigation will establish if cash has been taken however, dye-stained banknotes were found next to the ATM,” he said.

Several cartridges and one live 9mm round were found at the scene.

Cases of ATM bombing and attempted murder have been registered for further investigation.

Thakeng urged anyone with information that can lead to the arrests of these suspects to contact Detective Sergeant James Ramaphiri of the provincial organised crime unit on 065 629 6409 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
