THE Hawks in KZN have launched an investigation after suspected cocaine worth R111 million was recovered in a vessel at the Durban Harbour.

Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo said on Saturday, 18 June, the police were alerted about a suspicious consignment in a vessel that was ferrying trucks.

“The team arrived at the said place and recovered canvas bags with 265 bricks of cocaine.

“The drugs have an estimated value of R111 million. A preliminary investigation was conducted and the ownership of the shipment could not be located,” Nxumalo said.

She said the drugs were seized subject to an ongoing investigation and no arrest has been made at this stage.
