POLICE officers from Winburg cop shop in the Free State were turned into a joke on Tuesday, 9 August.
This after a handcuffed suspect managed to escape and the officers could not catch him.
The 25-year-old suspect was arrested for contravention of a protection order and common assault.
After registering a case, the police officers then escorted the handcuffed man to a patrol vehicle.
A witness told Daily Sun when the cops got to the patrol vehicle, the suspect kicked off his shoes and start running.
The suspect outran the officers and disappeared in the bushes.
Attempts to find the escapee included the activation of the K-9 Unit from Bloemfontein.
Captain Steven Thakeng said the escapee was finally re-arrested yesterday, 10 August.
This after police and farmers worked around the clock to find him.
“He was re-arrested in a bushy area, 20km outside Winburg, towards Clocolan.
“There will be an internal investigation against the two police constables,” said Thakeng.
The suspect is expected to appear in Winburg Magistrates Court tomorrow, 12 August.
