THE long arm of the law has caught up with two of the Gupta brothers.
Rajesh and Atul Gupta have been arrested in Dubai.
"The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services confirms that it has received information from law enforcement authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) that fugitives of justice, namely, Rajesh and Atul Gupta have been arrested," said department's spokesman Chrispin Phiri.
He said discussions between various law enforcement agencies in the UAE and South Africa on the way forward are ongoing.
A red Interpol notice was issued for the brothers following the Investigating Directorate's (ID) efforts to intensify their fight to bring the brothers and their wives back to Mzansi to face widespread graft, fraud and money laundering charges relating to State Capture.
Red notices are issued for fugitives wanted for prosecution and are issued to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition
Phiri said: "The South African government will continue to co-operate
with the UAE."
The Guptas moved to Dubai after fleeing South Africa following Jacob Zuma’s loss of power over the ANC.
According to the Zondo Commission report, they were at the centre of the theft of an estimated R250 billion from SA’s coffers, primarily from state-owned companies like Eskom, Transnet and SAA.
