Goitse battles skin disease nightmare

HIGH school years are meant to be an exciting stage for most teenagers, but this was not the case for Goitsemodimo Motshabi.

The 21-year-old from Magalies, North West, has been struggling with an unknown skin condition since he was in high school.

Goitse said his condition started as an allergic reaction, so he didn’t think much of it.

“At first, I thought it was an allergy, so I went to our local clinic and they gave me allergy pills and a cream, but there was no improvement.

“I was transferred to Helen Joseph Hospital where I was told I have severe eczema. They also did tests, but they came back negative,” he said.

His life has not been the same since the illness began.

“When I was in grade 10, I was asked to stay at home until I had recovered,” he said.

He said he was also kicked out of his family home because he was seeking for help from social workers and his neighbours were also disgusted by him.

Goitsemodimo Motshabi from Magalies, North West, has been struggling with an unknown skin condition since he was in high school.

With his condition, he struggles to do basic tasks like clean. and cook and he is also unable to sit for too long.

“I have tried taking medication and going to church, but there is no difference,” he said.

Goitse added that he receives very limited support from his family.

His mother is unable to help him because she is mentally ill and his father has passed on.

Goitse needs help. and doesn’t know what to do anymore.

Nkele Senne, a source close to Goitse said: “Goitse has always been a good and well-behaved boy. Lately, everything is a challenge for him. Children run away from him and people are disgusted by him. I wish he could get help.”

Sangoma Mkhulu Solly Mathebula said the problem Goitse is experiencingcould be a rare disease caused by the type of food an individual consumes and acid in the body. Mkhulu further advised that it may be treated by African herbs and creams.

Dr Laeeka Moosa, a dermatologist at Charlotte Maxeke hospital, said Goitse needs a thorough skin examination. as well as additional

investigations including skin biopsies and blood investigations.
