A 21-YEAR-OLD suspect allegedly tried to rape a 61-year-old gogo.
And when he failed, he allegedly raped her goat.
The man was killed during a mob attack after he was allegedly found raping the goat in Qwayinduku Village in Mtunzini, northern KZN, on Monday, 5 September.
The gogo said it was midnight when she heard a window breaking.
She jumped off the bed and took a knife, then went to investigate.
as she lived alone. She saw a man trying to gain entry through the window and started randomly threatening him with the knife.
“I kept hitting the window frame until he backed off.
“He said he wanted me to sleep with him.
“I refused, and he started insulting me – saying I must come closer to the window so he can rape me,” she said.
She said that a few minutes later, the suspect moved away from the window. She went to stand by the door to wait for him to kick it open, but didn’t.
“Then I heard a goat screaming. I took my cellphone and called the neighbours because I thought he was stealing my goats.
“They came running and wWhen they got to my house, we moved to the back where the goat was making noise,” she said.
That’s when the residents, along with the gogo, found the man allegedly raping the goat. Then they attacked him.
“I had no energy after fighting him off, so I just watched while he was being attacked.
“I was shaking because him raping the goat meant that his intention was to rape me,” said the gogo.
Don Nsele, an official from the Empangeni Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), said the gogo needed to report the matter to the nearest SPCA. so that an inspector could be sent to take the goat to the vet for examination.
“The SPCA will take the animal to the vet to get a full report and for medical attention. And if there’s a case opened, the report can be used in court as evidence,” said Nsele.
Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said when cops arrived at the scene, they found a man with head and face injuries, and he was declared dead.
“A case of murder was registered at Mtunzini cop shop and the matter is being investigated,” said Ngcobo.
