HE dreamt of imali yezipoki (ghost money) and was determined to get it.
So Mthetho Makhathini spent months digging a hole in his yard in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni searching for it.
However, this made his neighbours unhappy as the hole was so deep it threatened the stability of their homes.
They tried to stop him, but Mthetho wouldn’t budge.
Daily Sun published his story last month, which brought him even more woes.
He said his wife dumped him as she felt he ridiculed and embarrassed her. And this forced him to reconsider his dream.
To make things even worse, Ekurhuleni Metro cops visited his yard to demand he close the hole.
Several days ago, Daily Sun also visited his home and found he had indeed closed the hole.

His neighbours said they were pleased and thanked the People’s Paper for publishing the story.
But an unhappy Mthetho said he was trying to get his wife back.
“She left after seeing my photo in Daily Sun and said I embarrassed her. She was angry and this made me reconsider my decision,” he said.
Even though Metro cops also warned him, he couldn’t stop lamenting how close he was to getting his treasure.
“There’s a guy who specialises in treasure hunting and he came here with his camera and said he could see a box. He said I was close.
“But there’s nothing I can do now. The neighbours were complaining and my wife left me,” he said.
Neighbour Lebohang Ntiwane (41), who approached Daily Sun after his wall had cracked, said: “I’m glad he finally closed the hole. This thing brought me a lot of stress. I spent a lot of money to extend my house.”
