GAUTENG Police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela, shows kids some love.
He donated sports equipmentand chess boards at the Dominican School for the Deaf in Hammanskraal, Tshwane on Friday, 3 November.
He said the donation was part of the school safety project, which aims to prevent pupils from getting involved in criminal activities through sports.
Mawela appreciated the opportunity.
"I thought I knew and understood the school because I grew up less than 5 kilometres from it. Sometimes I pass by this school on my way from Hammanskraal Station to my mum's house in Suuruman," he said.
I also thought I knew what was going on in the school. He said the principal had opened his eyes.
"I don't regret choosing this school as one of the schools we are ploughing back through the provincial commissioner's special project," he said.
Mawela also said that as a society, as leaders and as people in South Africa, we need to start getting our hands dirty and not wait to be called out.

Mawela said we have been called to a position of authority and we are indeed blessed to be where we are.
"While we enjoy our blessings, we should not forget those who are not blessed. Even when we eat, we should not forget. Even when we sleep, we should think of those who sleep without blankets, and when we drive, we should think of those who are on foot," he said.
Mawela said he believed he was one of those people who had a difficult job as provincial commissioner because Gauteng was like a melting pot. He said everything you see either started here or will end here.
The school principal Mirriam Moyaha commended the South African Police Service for the donation. "We never thought we were right when they said we were one of the schools they chose because we always felt we were being forgotten. We are so humble," she said.
