TRANSPORT and Logistics MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela has issued an appeal to motorists.
This Easter weekend, the MEC is appealing to travellers to take responsibility before embarking on their journey.
Diale-Tlabela said this during the launch of the Gauteng Easter Road Safety Campaign in Tshwane. She said road users must ensure that they are well-rested, sober and fit to drive.

She said that too often road users experience the tragic aftermath of the Easter weekend, with reports of more fatalities and devastating consequences for countless families.
The MEC emphasised that this can no longer be the norm.
"The economic impact of these road accidents is staggering. They amount to billions of rands and place an immense burden on health and social services. The Gauteng government recognises the severity of this problem and is committed to intensifying its road safety campaigns in 2024, aligning with national targets and strategies," she said.
Diale-Tlabela said that the aim is to instil a culture of responsible and safe driving.
"We'll step up enforcement activities to ensure compliance with road safety regulations. Before you hit the road, make sure you're well-rested, sober and able to drive. Your decisions at the wheel not only affect your own safety but the lives of other road users. Remember, the decisions we make on the road have far-reaching consequences."
