“When I learnt about the crime prevention warden programme, I applied and I’m grateful that I'm part of the great team. Being part of this programme will change my life in many ways. It will open doors for me that I never thought would open,” she said.

Cebisile Zwane (31) from Katlehong is one of the young people who received an appointment letter for the solar technician programme.

She told Daily Sun that this is an exciting opportunity for her, as she will be skilled and will receive a stipend from the programme.

Cebisile said:

Today was a successful day and it makes me happy. I have been applying for a job for quite a while and nothing was happening. I’m grateful there’s finally light.

Mpho Masigo (24) told Daily Sun she had been battling with unemployment for quite a while. “I am very excited and grateful to Gauteng Premier Lesufi Panyaza for this opportunity,” she said.

Addressing the crowd, Lesufi said they have no time to play in Gauteng. “From the 1st of August and the 1st of September some of you will start at your new jobs,” he said.

He added that he didn’t want to give out appointment letters in offices as some people would take the letters and give them to their friends and not the person meant to receive the letter.

“While you are still training, we will give you R7 000 of your salary,” he said.
