THE PUPIL who allegedly stabbed another with a knife at Refentse Primary School in Dilopye, Hammanskraal, Tshwane has been suspended.
The case is pending a disciplinary hearing which will unfold in due course.
This is according to Gauteng Department of Education spokesman, Steve Mabona, who said the department has a zero-tolerance stance on allegations of misconduct and has never hesitated to act where allegations of this nature have been proven true.
It's reported that a grade 6 pupil was allegedly stabbed by a fellow grade 7 pupil on Friday, 26 January, just after assembly.
As a result, the pupil was rushed to the nearest clinic but was later referred to Jubilee Hospital and is now recovering well.
Mabona said the department’s psycho-social support officials were sent to the school to offer necessary support to all affected by this unfortunate incident and that the police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“We strongly condemn any acts of misconduct and urge learners to refrain from such in schools. We continue to implore parents to assist the department in instilling learner discipline in and outside the school environment,” Mabona said.
General secretary of the National School Governing Bodies (NASGB), Matakanye Matakanye, said all schools must have policies to be applied to end violence and bullying among pupils.
Matakanye said if schools fail to apply their policies, they can contact the association to come and offer training on how to handle such matters as every pupil deserves to attend school without fear of being bullied.
Matakanye emphasised that the governing body must not sleep on the job and that they should contact the national association to empower them if they lack any skills.
According to a parent, the grade 7 pupil previously reported to the school that he was being bullied but no action was taken and that’s when he decided to defend himself and brought a knife as his shield.
An insider said the school didn’t want the matter to be in the public eye and they were in talks with both parents to try and solve the matter among themselves.
Daily Sun tried to get the full story from the school governing body, but no one was willing to talk.
