Gauteng Education spokesman Steve Mabona said parents have one more chance to apply for their kids.
Gauteng Education spokesman Steve Mabona said parents have one more chance to apply for their kids.

THE Gauteng Department of Education has announced that late applications for grade 1 and 8 pupils will open on Monday, 18 December.

Education spokesman, Steve Mabona said this is for parents who hadn’t applied for their children when applications opened early in 2023.

“The Gauteng Department of Education wishes to confirm that the late applications for grades 1 and 8 in Gauteng public schools for 2024 will open on Monday the 18th of December 2023 at 8am in the morning.

“What is important is that only schools with space will be available for applications. Now parents must apply to only one school, which will automatically place them and the documents must be submitted to schools when we reopen on the 17th of January 2024,” said Mabona.

He said parents will not be able to get help from the department for now because their offices are closed.

“Unfortunately, because our employees in district offices are on leave, their office will not be in a position to help parents who need help but from the second week of January parents can visit our district offices and head office for help.

“I'm talking about parents that cannot be in a position to use the system,” he said.

The initial closing date for the applications was 14 July 2023, but the department extended the date to 21 July 2023.

They are now giving parents another chance.
