ON Tuesday, 18 July, Mzansi people celebrated Mandela Day by helping to make a difference in others' lives.
Gauteng Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, e-Government, Research and Development (Cogta) MEC Mzi Khumalo, and other government officials visited the Wheatlands Community Care for the Aged in Randfontein, west of Joburg.
Khumalo said they visited the centre to donated blankets, food parcels and garden tools as part of Mandela Day.
“The reason that brought me here is that at some point I was the executive mayor of this city, and we started to build a relationship and the partnership with this home," he said.

The MEC said he adopted the centre as one of the homes that he must do some work on.
He said he regards the centre as his home and encouraged the communities around to visit the home.
“Even if you have nothing but to spent time with the elderly people and talk to them it will make a huge difference,” he said.
The centre owner, Pauline Mokae, said she was happy to receive food parcels and blankets from Cogta officials.
“The donation will help us, especially during this winter season. The centre looks after elderly people whom some are homeless and need love and a place to stay,” she said.
Gogo Beauty Khumalo (97), who lives at the centre, said she was excited to see people visiting them.
“It’s most fulfilling and uplifting to see people show some love to elderly people. I wish we can receive such visits often, just to mingle and laugh with visitors,” said gogo.
