RESIDENTS of Block 6 in Philippi, Cape Town, have threatened to pour kak and urine in another resident’s car, accusing him of blocking services in their kasi.

A group of residents accused Mthokozisi “Mphela” Vuthula of parking his car in a passage that the vehicles that clean mobile toilets in the area use.

Gatvol residents said for the past two weeks, their mobile toilets were not cleaned.

They claimed to have told him to remove his car but he ignored them.

On Saturday morning, 6 August, community leader Rose Khaile said they summoned Mphela to a meeting.

She said he came but walked away during the meeting.

“We are not fighting with him and our request is simple.

He knows that the toilets are cleaned on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so he must remove his car from the passage on those days.

“There is nothing difficult here but Mphela doesn’t want to listen to us. As affected residents, we have decided that we will take kak and urine and pour it into his car so that he can feel the pain of living with kak smell in our homes. Toilets are not cleaned because of his car,” said Khaile.

A resident, Nokwakha Somdaka, said the toilets are now a health hazard.

“We are being reasonable here but he is disrespecting us. The pain is on us, not him. We also wanted to call law enforcement so that his car could be impounded but we decided to engage him first but he is not being reasonable. We are gatvol with his behaviour,” she said.

Mphela confirmed the car parked in the passage was his but refuted claims he was refusing to remove it.

He said he was told about the cleaning company vehicles that come to the area and he’s been leaving his car keys with his neighbour who could remove it whenever there was a need.

“I only heard today that my car is causing problems. All along I thought my neighbour was removing the car,” he said.

On why he walked out of the meeting, Mphela said he didn’t like being threatened.

“I came to the meeting because I respect the residents. When I got there, they told me that they were going to demolish my shack and chase me away from the area.

“Why would I sit there and listen to people who are threatening me instead of addressing the problem?” he said.

Mphela finally agreed to move his car from the passage every morning and only park it there at night.
