THE residents of Phokeng are unhappy with the Royal Bafokeng administration.
On 10 March, residents of the area outside Rustenburg in North West marched to the Royal Bafokeng administration offices to hand over a memorandum of concerns.
They raised issues affecting the community, including water shortages, the high unemployment rate and a lack of community development.
The protesters said they wanted the Royal Bafokeng administration to deal with the local mines, which are not creating jobs or business opportunities.
Residents wanted locals to be prioritised when it came to community upliftment projects.
The administration agreed to schedule a meeting.
But community leader Koifi Morwane told Daily Sun most of their concerns weren’t addressed during another meeting on Thursday, 17 March at Royal Bafokeng Civic Centre.
“We are not satisfied with how the meeting went.
“However, we still have hope that we will find solutions,” he said.
Koifi said he believed once all the issues were resolved, his people would have development and dignity. Kebalepile Mokgethi of the Royal Bafokeng administration said there would be ongoing discussions.
“We’re willing to listen and evaluate possible solutions in the best interests of the community,” he said.
