THE Mnguni family in Petsana in Reitz, Free State, is saddened by the death of four children who died inside an unused Volvo car on Wednesday, 26 October.
Siblings Lesedi Mnguni (3) and Jwalane Mnguni (4), together with cousins Lerato Tshabalala (two) and Mojalefa Mokoena (4), were playing inside the old car when they allegedly suffocated to death.
They were discovered by their 72-year-old gogo, locked inside the car, and she called the ambulance. The three boys and girl were certified dead by paramedics.
Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring said the kids were last seen playing outside under the supervision of their gogo in the morning.

“She went to look for them but couldn’t find them until 4.30pm. A family member found them unconscious. They tried to open the doors but they were locked from the inside. They then forcefully opened and took them out,” said the officer.
Speaking to Daily Sun, family spokesman Jappie Mnguni, who is also Lesedi and Jwalane’s dad, said someone locked the door purposely.
“This was orchestrated. Someone with bad intentions locked them inside. The have been playing inside this car for 10 months, and it has never locked them inside. We are waiting for that person to confess. Our hearts are bleeding,” he said.
