The incident allegedly happened in the Motetema policing area outside Groblersdal in the Sekhukhune District last Wednesday, 8 March.
It's alleged the four cops were on duty in a marked police minibus when they saw three men withdrawing money from an ATM at Groblersdal Mall.
The officers allegedly suspected the three men of being undocumented foreigners.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the officers allegedly approached them and demanded passports.
"They thereafter arrested them when they failed to produce passports and put them into their motor vehicle.
"While driving along the road, they allegedly stopped the minibus and forcibly took an amount of R5 000 from the complainants and gave them R60 to take a taxi ride home," said Mojapelo.
He said the victims managed to get assistance and immediately went to the police station to report the incident.
“A task team was established to prove the incident and locate the officers responsible,” said Mojapelo.

He said the matter was later handed over to the provincial anti-corruption team for further investigations and a warrant of arrest was subsequently issued against them.
“A joint operation to execute the warrant was conducted and the four members were arrested while on duty,” said Mojapelo.
