FORMER president Jacob Zuma is set to hear on Thursday, 10 August whether he will be sent back to prison or not.
Correctional Services Commissioner Samuel Thobakgale is expected to announce whether Zuma must complete his 15-month sentence for contempt of court.
Violence erupted in July 2021 after Zuma was arrested at his home in Nkandla, KZN and imprisoned at the Estcourt Correctional Centre. About 350 people died, and the losses caused by looting were estimated at R50 billion.
Zuma had been sentenced to prison by the Constitutional Court for defying its order to testify before the State Capture Inquiry. But before he could serve his whole sentence, he was granted medical parole by former national commissioner of correctional services, Arthur Fraser.

The parole was subsequently found to have been irregular. In July, the Constitutional Court dismissed the department's appeal against a Constitutional Court ruling that Zuma has to return to prison.
If the announcement goes against Zuma, he will serve the remainder of his sentence, which is 13 months.
The South African Police Service and the South African National Defence Force have reportedly been deployed in KZN in anticipation of violence should Zuma be sent back to prison.
