FORMER Mamelodi Sundowns development player Lesiba Ramabula was laid to rest on Sunday, 6 March.
The 21-year-old from Seshego outside Polokwane, Limpopo, was struck by lightning on Tuesday, 1 March on his way home from training.
He was described as a disciplined player who had a lot to offer.
His mum, Lorraine (45), said: “My son, I was expecting so much from you. For me to be at peace, I must just accept that you are gone, but the pain cuts deep.
“How can we move on? Your death has taught me not to take life for granted.”
Lorraine said Lesiba had wishes and dreams and promised to take his family overseas when he plays internationally.
In his honour, residents called for Lesiba’s street to be renamed after him.
Lesiba started playing for Seshego Capricorn FC from the age of six until the age of 12.
He joined Molemole Academy in 2014 and was promoted to play for the Under-17s where he wore the captain’s arm band until 2018.
He went to the Limpopo School of Excellence until he joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2019.
At the time of his death, Lesiba was training with 95 Turfloop FC.
His teammate, Denis Modiba, said he used to walk with Lesiba to training every day.
“His tragic death has hurt me a lot and it will take time to heal,” he said.
Phuti Lekganyane, spokesman for 95 Turfloop FC, said coaches fought for Lesiba when he arrived at the club.
“He was talented. We have lost a star,” he said.
William Motlanthe, coach of Seshego Capricorn FC told mourners: “I haven’t accepted his death. Lesiba was a disciplined player on and off the pitch.”
Lesiba leaves behind his parents, two brothers, two sisters and gogo.
