“OUR streets have turned into dams!”
These were the words of residents of Winterveld, Tshwane, who live along Pinky’s Sixth Street.
They say the potholes in the road are not only a danger to motorists but also kids, who play in the water-filled holes as if they are swimming pools.
They fear their children will get hit by cars or become sick from the dirty water. They say cars also get stuck in the potholes.
Resident Fikile Mdluli (48) told Daily Sun they had learnt to live with the potholes because the municipality was doing nothing.

“Some of our friends and relatives have stopped visiting because of this,” she said.
“We want the city to tell us why they are not repairing the road.”
Innocentia Malebye (41) said she was worried about her children’s safety.
City of Tshwane spokesman Lindela Mashigo said they were aware of continuous sewage overflow onto the street.
He said it was caused by illegal connections to the sewer line. He said the line was not yet connected to the main system and ended up overflowing through manholes.
“The city unblocks these manholes from time to time while we are engaging communities about the illegal connections,” he said.
Mashigo said there were no plans to fix the road because this could only be done once the issue of illegal connections was addressed.
