A SURVIVOR of the Finetown massacre still wonders how he made it out alive.
“I came face-to-face with death as I lost my friends,” the 26-year-old told the People’s Paper.
He said he was living in fear and staying indoors while trying to put the vision of tsotsis on a mission to kill out of his mind.
“I was chilling with my friends when we saw a white Corolla Quest without a number plate,” he said.
He said it looked suspicious as it had parked on the side of the road.
“One of my friends said, ‘why does it look like those boys are about to rob us?’.”
They didn’t pay much attention because the car drove off. But it came back minutes later.

“Three guys got out, came towards us and pointed guns at us. One of them demanded our phones and money. One of my friends gave him his phone, then they told us to take off our clothes.”
While doing so, they took his friend’s branded T-shirt.
“My friend’s sister, who was shot, came out after hearing the noise. One of the guys pointed the gun at her. They took other things and drove off,” he said.
They started throwing stones at the car as it drove away, but the suspects came back. They pointed guns at his friends and shots rang out.
“I heard a gunshot and started running,” he said.
He collapsed and when he woke up, he couldn’t feel his hand. He was bleeding. He realised then that he had been shot. Walking back, he saw his friends’ bodies on the ground. “I don’t know how many shots were fired. They were firing wildly,” he added.
