THE road to the first annual Mrs eSoweto Pageant 2022 starts this weekend.
Founder and CEO Fikile Motaung told Daily Sun the pageant was designed for mature women aged between 25 and 50, who live in Soweto. She said after doing research, she discovered most women seem to lose their self-esteem and confidence when they get married, get divorced or widowed.
She said the pageant is set to remind them they’re beautiful and capable of making a difference in their communities. “The pageant will also help women with modelling, public speaking, business administration and management and help the winner to start their own foundation.”
She said that participants must be married, divorced or widowed, and the highest qualification must at least be matric.
They must also have an interest in working with the community of Soweto. “We’re not looking for a certain height or weight. All types of women are welcome, as long as they’re comfortable in their own skin and are prepared for a transformation in their lives.”
Fikile said she was facing a challenge of getting sponsors.
“Those who’d like to partner or sponsor us must feel free to contact us. The aim of the pageant is to change the lives of the women of Soweto, even beyond the pageant competition.”
Auditions will take place at YWCA on the corner of Mahalefela Road and Ncube Drive in Dube, Soweto on Saturday, 6 August. The audition fee is R250 prior to the audition date and R300 on the day.
About R60 000 worth of prizes are up for grabs including cash, beauty spa and nail vouchers and more. Finals will be on 29 October.
