FIGHTING has led to the much-anticipated ANC Mpumalanga elective conference being delayed.
The conference was meant to be held in Emalahleni at the weekend.
Provincial convener and acting chairman, Mandla Mdlovu, told Daily Sun the provincial task team was awaiting a report from the organising team and feedback from the national disputes resolution committee.
Ndlovu said some of the disputes, lodged by branches, were legitimate, while others were not.
He said most of the disputes were rooted in failed processes at branch level.
“People have complained that processes were not followed according to ANC guidelines, while others have generated disputes just because they had lost,” he said.
“Disputes will first be directed to the branch and given a verdict. If you are unhappy, appeal to the provincial resolution committee.
“Disputes are dealt with at provincial level. Before disputes are finalised, there won’t be a conference. That is where we are.”
Previous attempts to elect new leaders failed after several incidents of violence and intimidation were reported during branch general meetings. The last time the provincial ANC held a conference was in 2015 when David Mabuza was chairman.
Last week, the national working committee dissolved the provincial executive committee.
Today, 7 March, President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to meet with branch leaders to discuss the issues raised.
