TIRO Moalusi committed suicide on Tuesday, 16 August, after a teacher allegedly made fun of his sexuality.
But his family is not happy with how the school is handling his death.
They have vowed to deal with the matter after the 15-year-old’s funeral on Thursday, 25 August.
His memorial service will be held at PJ Simelani Secondary School on Tuesday, 23 August.
Tiro’s aunt, Masingita (43) from Tshepisong in West Rand, told Daily Sun residents have been supporting the family to get justice for Tiro.
They’re also tired of some of the issues the principal has allegedly never dealt with.
She said on Friday, 19 August, the community headed to the school to demand answers and the teacher was there, but the principal and other teachers apparently protected her.
They were angered by this as they couldn’t understand how this person is still going to work as if nothing happened.
Masingita emphasised that the community didn’t want to assault her. She said they needed to find out if she was aware that their child had died and that it was her fault.
“The fact that Tiro told his class teacher that this woman made fun of him and she didn’t do anything about it is disgusting for us,” said Masingita.
She said they were also joined by the ANC Youth League and Congress of South African Students, but they eventually left as no one was giving them any response.
“What I know is that we won’t rest until we get justice for Tiro. This school has had drama for the longest time and we’ve all been letting things slide as the principal always wants to protect the school’s reputation, but it has to come to an end now,” she said.
Gauteng education spokesman Steve Mabona confirmed that the department is aware of the matter and they have started an investigation.
