NTANDO Tsotetsi (10) was buried on Friday morning, 10 November, at the De Deur cemetery in the Vaal.

The family claimed that the councillor and the construction company have shown no remorse even though it is allegedly their fault that Ntando lost his life.

Teboho Tsotetsi, owner of Vaal Monate Cafe and uncle to Ntando, told Daily Sun that the councillor was allegedly arrogant towards the family from day one and so was the construction company as they both acted as if nothing had happened.

"I tried to talk to them when I told them that they created a death trap without a barricade, they became defensive as if they had all the precautions under control while they didn’t.

"They killed our child and are still acting like nothing happened. They didn’t even bother to attend the funeral service for Ntando, and we pray that all government agencies will be called in to look into how a construction company can operate without erecting barricades," he said.

Daily Sun ran Ntando's story on Tuesday, 7 November under headline: Dad's pain: I couldn't save Ntando

Khehla Tsotesti, Ntando’s mkhulu, told the mourners that although Ntando was in the wrong place at the wrong time, as a family they understand that everyone has their time.

Khehla said they are finding it very difficult to accept the death, but the day will come when they accept as a family that they didn’t send their child to a dangerous place to play, but children play everywhere.

Ntando drowned while swimming in a ditch at the under-construction Chris Hani Stadium in Orange Farm, south of Joburg on Saturday, 4 November.

Ward 3 Councillor Zakaria Mokari said security had been chasing away kids, who had been playing at the trench, since Friday, 2 November.

"On Saturday, they come back again and unfortunately, Ntando was trapped by mud while swimming," he said.

He said community members were the ones who stole barricades from construction sites.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said that a 10-year-old boy child was found drowned in a trench at a construction site at Chis Hani Stadium in extension 6a in Orange Farm on Saturday afternoon.
