GOGO Anna Makgatho is fighting tooth and nail to get back a house allegedly belonging to her daughter, Rachel.
The 72-year-old from Atteridgeville, west of Tshwane, told Daily Sun her heart breaks every time she passes the house. She said her sister Merriam (64) took her 49-year-old daughter’s house, which was apparently left to her by their mum when she died in 2010.
“My mother left a will which stated that my daughter and my late son should inherit the house. Even the Master of the High Court gave us a letter of authority as proof.”
Gogo Annah said this didn’t stop Merriam from chasing her daughter out of the house so she could live there with her children.
“She believes the house is a family house, which is not true. We have a house where we grew up, that’s the family house,” she said.
She said her daughter was renting a place in a squatter camp.
“I want to know when my time comes to meet my maker that I fought for my child to get what belongs to her,” she said.
“Rachel is not fighting for herself as she lost her brother, who committed suicide because of this house.”
The gogo said she even paid lawyers to help her evict Merriam, but it was a slow process.
According to Merriam, the matter was going to court and they should let the court decide. She asked gogo Annah to arrange a family meeting so they could resolve the matter.
“I’m willing to sit down and negotiate with her as my sister,” she said.
Their cousin Onica Sehlapelo said the house belonged to Rachel.
“Rachel took care of my aunt until her death. She had been living there since they got the house,” she said.
The SunTeam could not get hold of Rachel as her phone was off.
