DISGRACED former Tshwane mayor Murunwa Makwarela has been granted R10 000 bail by the Tshwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
This after the 50-year-old handed himself over to the Brooklyn police in Tshwane on Monday morning, 3 April.
He faces fraud charges after he tried to cling to his mayoral position by submitting a fake insolvency clearance certificate to the City of Tshwane.
The municipality then approached the Hawks to have them investigate Makwarela for fraud.

A day before he resigned, Makwarela produced a "court document", which he claimed was evidence that he had been cleared of his insolvency, but the North Gauteng High Court declared the letter fake.
The high court also said it never published an insolvency clearance certificate for Makwarela.
Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation spokeswoman, Colonel Katlego Mogale, said they found that the rehabilitation certificate was disputed by the Pretoria High Court as having issued by them.
“The accused was charged with two counts of fraud and uttering resulting in his arrest. The accused was granted R10 000 bail and is due to reappear in the same court on 2 May for disclosure and instructions,” she said.
