MBONGENI Welcome Zwane is wanted by Cleveland police for raping his ex-girlfriend.

Zwane, who is on the run, couldn’t handle being dumped and when he failed to fix things between him and his ex, he stooped embarrassingly low and took her against her own will at gunpoint.

Police said in July last year, the 30-year-old victim alleged that she was coming from work and just got home in Marlven, Joburg.

She went out to go buy airtime and while on the street a white Audi A3 approached her at high speed and the car stopped next to her. When she looked, she saw it was her ex-boyfriend, who was drunk and wanted to talk to her as he wanted to apologise.

When the victim refused, he allegedly drew a firearm and ordered her to get in the car and drove off with her.

Jeppe police spokesman Captain Richard Munyai said: “They drove to a park behind Malvern Fire Station. The doors were locked and he pointed a firearm to her forehead. He told her she made a mistake by getting a protection order against him and he is going to kill her for that. She asked for forgiveness and he told her to pray before he killed her and turn the gun on himself.”

Making peace with the fact that she wad going to die, the victim asked Mbongeni to give her his phone so that she could call her son and say goodbye to him. She phoned her mother’s phone, however, her sister was on the other side of the line but she could not tell her what was happening. The ex-boyfriend took the phone and phoned his friends and told them he wanted to swap cars. He then got a white Nissan 1400 from them.”

Munyai said they drove to a BnB in Jeppestown where he booked.

“He forcibly slept with her the whole night until the morning. At about 8am the next morning, he told her she can leave. Before he let her go, he told her not to tell the police that he has a firearm and she must tell her parents they are fixing their relationship,” said Munyai.

“The suspect is still on the run. He used to stay at 3rd Street Malvern house No 8 and he is from Nongoma in KZN. We are appealing to anyone who might know his whereabouts to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Ntombizodwa Metswamere on 073 955 6270, or Captain Mbazima Hlengane on 082 859 3759.
